ASPE Joins the buildingSMART® Alliance to Help Lead Industry in BIM Standards

GSA (General Services Administration) Recognizes ASPE Certification

Washington , DC- The GSA Document PER-120 (Professional Estimating Requirements for Public Building Service) has recently been revised and approved by the GSA National Office in Washington, D.C. They are in the process of printing 40,000 copies. This document will be given out to the A-E Community in the coming months and also will be available within the web. Please search in www.gsa.gov until the exact website has been established.

The GSA has expanded its estimator qualification provision: “Although not required, certification by the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) as a Certified Professional Estimator or Cost Engineer by the Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE), is supporting evidence of an estimator’s qualification.” The GSA has expanded its Ethics provision as well:

“The standards of practice described within the Canons of Ethics, published by the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) or the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE_International) shall be applied to all estimating services.

The ASPE will be better known in the construction industry with this GSA publication. Thanks to Fred Jang, R.A. ASPE, CSI, with ASPE Golden Gate Chapter No. 2 who served on GSA’s Cost Advocates Committee and helped GSA’s National Office rewrite this extensive document. Thanks to the ASPE National Recognition Committee Members and others who have participated in the GSA effort over the past years. Please spread the good news to all construction estimators about the benefits of ASPE membership and CPE certification.
